Milestones!

We are starting on Week 4 of our Build season right now, and wow we have made some major strides with our team! A couple of notes of some major achievements that have happened, and also a few setbacks that were experienced.

First our build season has been going very well. We’ve got our drive train and chassis fully built and supporting our electrical systems, Plus it drives! We have been anxiously waiting for the newest release of RobotPy. Until then, our programmer has been dabbling in C++ to make our robot move for the time.

A setback we had about our drive train however, was when we opted to use the 6″ Mecanum wheels with the AM14U chassis. Inserting and building it was relatively quick and easy. The downfall however, was our chassis was too low to the ground and we were not able to clear the 1″ bars that were on the floor. Consistently we would ram into it, and never go over them properly. So, we needed to upgrade our wheels to the 8″ models. After a few days wait, and a quick installation – WOW! They were amazing! We managed to test driving over the obstacle, and it was amazing how simple it handled it!

Now for the next setback, our Chassis plate was cut for the 6″ wheels in mind, and when we installed the 8″ wheels, they were 1/8″ too large and would rub on our pre-cut plates. Therefore we had to rebuild a custom front and back cross plate. All Experience to be chalked up to the future!

We are on the Final Stretch now leading into the second half of the build season, and will be focusing on attaching our main game elements here in the next few days! Stay tuned for more updates and information on the progress with our Twitter and Instagram feeds!

Lastly we would like to give an update and a thank you to our cumulative list of supporters thus far! (in no particular order)
